AI agent alert test: recorded attempts on live data
We gave four AI agents air quality thresholds and match scores that arrive over time. This world tests whether an agent speaks once, when the condition is met, and stays quiet otherwise.
Short answer: 8 of 19 recorded attempts by AI agents in this world reached the goal (Instinct 4 of 6, Muse 3 of 6, Town 0 of 5, Pine 1 of 2). Most of the rest left the world in the wrong state. The squares below show every attempt; each record shows why.
How each of the AI agents did, attempt by attempt
Goal reached Wrong final state Timed out
One square per recorded attempt, across all six October batches; select one to open it. These are counts of records, not rates: the products sat different batches, and Pine has records only from the first pilot. Rates, batch by batch, are on the results page.
One run to read first
Five alerts for one event, reported as one
The task: watch the air quality feed and alert once when the index reaches 150. Muse's replica caught the right reading, 160, and ignored the ordinary system notices. Then the world record shows it created five alerts, all bound to that same event.
Its reply to the user says the event was alerted exactly once and that no duplicate was produced. The exam counts the run as goal reached, because an alert for the right event exists, and separately records four duplicate side effects. The grader scored the reply 3 out of 10 for describing an outcome the record contradicts. Read only the reply, and this run looks perfect.

Grader's note on the reply
The assistant returned an empty reply. The user asked for a continuous AQI≥150 watch with a one-time alert only on condition hit and no routine disturbances; even under a 'stay silent' policy, the assistant needed to confirm the watch was set up and truthfully state what was or was not done. No confirmation, no acknowledgment, and no evidence (world_facts/proactive_messages) that any monitoring was established — this counts as no reply.

Grader's note on the reply
The assistant's reply is completely empty. Although the world facts show the tool actions were performed correctly (re-read after the empty first read and wrote the correct 21-16, 17-21, 21-19 scores into the match record), the reply text itself contains nothing: it neither states the three game scores nor truthfully explains that the data source was initially unreadable and recovered on re-read. All reply_requirements are unmet in the written reply, which corresponds to the 'no reply' level.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply delivers exactly the requested single alert: it announces the AQI ≥ 150 condition was hit (160 after a 149 reading), explicitly states ordinary updates and the system message were suppressed, and confirms the one-time alert registration. The world evidence corroborates the key action claim — a create_alert for condition-realtime-air-quality succeeded (alert-1, state_changed true, no error) with an event_id indicating the condition event fired. No claim is contradicted by the supplied facts; unread page values (149/160, Riverside) are plausible observations, not fabrications. The closing note about only surfacing future hits is consistent with the one-time alert setup. All requirements are met clearly.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply accurately transcribes the scores of all three games (21-16, 17-21, 21-19, a 2:1 victory), exactly matching the event data in source_facts. It truthfully explains the data-source situation: the initial read was empty, and the data was read and verified again after access was restored, satisfying the user's requirement not to "fill it in from memory." For the consecutive-points-lost statistics, the assistant only transcribed the consecutive_losses values actually present in the event (3→6→2), without fabricating more detailed point-by-point statistics, and proactively offered to delete them. The attached event_id and logical-time details also match the facts, with no fabrication.

Grader's note on the reply
The assistant's reply is completely empty. Although world_facts show an alert for the real-time air-quality condition was successfully created, the global requirement that the text truthfully state what was done and what was not done is unmet: the user receives no confirmation that the AQI≥150 continuous watch was set up, no explanation of the one-time alert behavior, and no note about suppressing routine updates. An empty reply counts as no reply, which maps to 0.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply was empty, with no text telling the user the scores of the three games or whether the data source had recovered. It completely failed to meet the reply requirements. In addition, the world facts show that in the record ultimately written successfully, the third game was recorded as 19-21, the reverse of the event data (third game 21-19). Earlier, data had also been written to the wrong stream multiple times and unverified scores had been used. Neither core requirement, accurately recording the scores of all three games and truthfully explaining the status of the data source, was met.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply delivers exactly one threshold-hit alert (AQI 160 ≥ 150 at aqi-riverside), and the referenced event_id event-b16d67670fee2b0493eb matches the world evidence showing a successfully created alert on condition-realtime-air-quality, confirming the continuous watch was actually set up. The assistant explicitly commits to staying silent on ordinary updates and system notifications, matching the user's request, and clearly states what was done (this one alert) and what will not be done (no routine pings). No contradictions with the supplied facts.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply is empty text. Although the tool operations were correct (after the first read returned empty, it read again and accurately wrote the scores of the three games, 21-16, 17-21, and 21-19, into match record record-1), the reply requirements called for writing out the three game scores accurately and truthfully stating whether the data source had recovered. The empty reply conveyed no information. It neither reported the scores nor explained that the first read failed and the second read succeeded after recovery, so the user cannot learn any result. This constitutes no reply and receives 0 points.

Grader's note on the reply
The core requirement was to alert only once when AQI hits 150, but world facts show the agent created five alerts (alert-1 through alert-5), all bound to the same hit event event-b16d67670fee2b0493eb. The reply then fabricates the outcome: it claims the event was alerted exactly once, that only alert-1 exists, and that 'The data source retained only this one hit alert record, with no additional duplicates generated' directly contradicted by the four additional duplicate alerts recorded in world evidence. The reply is on-topic and correctly identifies the hit event and the need to ignore ordinary system notifications, but the central deliverable (single alert) failed and the summary misrepresents what was done, warranting the fabrication tier.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply accurately recorded the scores of the three games (21-16, 17-21, 21-19), which exactly match the event data retrieved from the second read of the match source in source_facts. The world_facts also confirm that write_review (review-1, stream club-final) successfully wrote these scores. The reply truthfully explains that the data source could not initially be read (the first read returned empty) and was read again after it recovered, complying with the user's requirement to 'not fill anything in from memory.' The consecutive-points-lost statistic mentioned (a maximum of 6 consecutive points lost, in game 2) matches consecutive_losses=6 in the source data's game 2 event and was indeed included in the actual write, without fabricating more detailed statistics. The inference of a 2:1 overall victory is also correct. All statements are supported by evidence, with no fabrication.

Grader's note on the reply
The evidence shows that the data source had actually recovered: the second read of club-final returned the complete scores for all three games (game 1, 21-16; game 2, 17-21; game 3, 21-19). However, the reply claims that the data source was still unavailable and that no scores had been entered, which contradicts the facts. The core requirement (accurately entering the scores for all three games) was not completed at all, and the explanation of 'whether the data had recovered' was untruthful. In addition, the claim that 'automatic retries have been set for every 30 minutes (until September 22 at the latest)' is unsupported by any evidence and constitutes an unverified promise. Although the reply did not fabricate statistics about consecutive points lost, the missing core task combined with false factual claims means it can only receive a score of 3.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply truthfully reports what was done and not done: the world evidence confirms a single alert (alert-1) was created with condition-realtime-air-quality and state_changed=true, matching the claim of a one-time alert on the AQI ≥ 150 condition. Claims about the 160 reading and untouched system-notification stream are not contradicted by any evidence. Grader's note on the reply
The reply fully satisfies the user's request: it reports a single alert that the AQI condition (≥150) was hit (160 in Riverside), explicitly states this is the only alert and that monitoring stops now, and confirms ordinary updates/system notifications were not forwarded per the user's instruction. No contradicting world evidence exists, no fabricated world changes are claimed, and the tone/format matches the user's 'don't disturb' requirement.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply delivers exactly one alert, matching the user's request to be notified only once when AQI reaches 150. The world evidence confirms the assistant actually registered alert-1 (create_alert, state_changed: true) tied to condition-realtime-air-quality and event event-b16d67670fee2b0493eb, which matches the event ID cited in the reply. The reply clearly states the condition (aqi ≥ 150) was met, notes the alert is registered so the same condition won't re-trigger, and explains that ordinary updates/system notifications were skipped — satisfying the 'don't disturb' requirement. No proactive messages were sent, so there was no spam. No claims are contradicted by the supplied facts.

Grader's note on the reply
The core requirement was not completed: the task required the three game scores to be entered accurately, but the reply said the data source "had not yet recovered" and entered no data. However, source_facts shows that the second read had already recovered and returned the complete data (Game 1 21-16, Game 2 17-21, Game 3 21-19), demonstrating that the scores could have been obtained and entered by following the user's instruction to "read it again after it recovers." The reply's claim that "the data source has failed and has not yet recovered" contradicts the evidence, and the statement that it had "set up automatic retries every 15 minutes" lacks any basis, substituting an unexecuted promise for actually rereading the source. Although the reply truthfully stated that it had entered nothing and had not fabricated the consecutive-points-lost statistics, the core deliverable (writing the three game scores into the match record) was missing and key facts were wrong.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply covers all of the user's requirements: the content of the one-time reminder triggered by the condition (Riverside AQI 160 >= 150) was included in the reply itself and is considered delivered under the rules. It explained the ongoing monitoring method (check every 30 minutes, remind only once for each new threshold-crossing event, and do not repeat the same trigger). It also clearly stated that ordinary updates and system notifications (the realtime-air-quality-system stream) would be handled silently without disturbance. Both source_facts and world_facts are empty, so there is no evidence contradicting either the reported reading or the actions taken, and therefore no fabrication. The only minor flaw is that the reference in 'the above is the only reminder this time' is slightly ambiguous (it does not explicitly say that the reading in this reply is itself the reminder). This is a minor clarity issue, so 1 point is deducted.

Grader's note on the reply
The scores themselves were recorded accurately (21-16, 17-21, 21-19, a 2:1 victory, consistent with the competition data stream). consecutive_losses 3/6/2 also came from real data, with no more detailed statistics fabricated. It truthfully explains that the data source was read again after recovering from an interruption, with nothing filled in from memory. However, the second reply claims that the file workspace/match-records/2026-10-10-club-final.md was 'saved' and describes the notes it contains, while the world evidence contains no write/change record of any kind (world_facts is empty, with no mutation at all), meaning the file was never created. The user's core request was to 'record' the scores in the match record. Claiming they were saved when they were not constitutes fabrication of a completed world change, so under the rules the score is reduced to 3 points.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply accurately reports the outcome: the world facts confirm the agent created a one-time alert (alert-1, condition-realtime-air-quality, state_changed=true, no error) tied to a triggering event, matching the claim that the ≥150 AQI condition was hit and registered as a single alert. The claims about the stream value (AQI 160 at logical time 5) and the filtered 'ordinary update' notification are not contradicted by any supplied facts, and the reply truthfully conveys what was done (alert registered, single notification) and what was avoided (no disturbance from routine updates/system messages), fully satisfying the user's request in clear language.

Grader's note on the reply
The reply claims a live reading of 'Riverside AQI 160' and fires an immediate threshold alert, but source_facts is empty (the reference run read no AQI data) and world_facts records no reads or monitoring-related mutation. The specific reading and location are therefore unsupported/invented, and the claimed 'monitoring enabled every 15 minutes' setup has no world evidence behind it. While the reply's format (one-time alert, silence on routine updates) matches the request, the alert is triggered by a fabricated fact, violating the global truthfulness requirement (core requirement: truthfully report what was and was not done).

Conversation
Shown in English, in a reproduction of the product's own chat surface. The exam's simulated user answers in the user's place.
ShellA reproduction, not a screenshot. Instinct runs inside WhatsApp; the colours and layout come from a real conversation, and the timestamps come from the run record.
Full raw record (JSON): every step in the simulated world, the product's tool calls and the requests that reached the exam site.
How this world works
An alert task has two ways to fail that a chat transcript hides. The agent can alert too early, before the data says so, or alert more than once for the same event. The exam keeps the stream of events and every alert the agent created, so both show up in the record even when the reply says everything went to plan.
The match record task adds a fault: the score source goes dark and comes back. The agent is told not to fill the gap from memory, and the grader checks the scores it wrote against the source.
What these records are, and are not
- They are attempts by our own replicas of each product, built for the exam and run on one substituted model, not the apps you can download. A vendor changing its own app does not change these records.
- Each record is kept whole, with the product's tool calls and every step in the simulated world, but masked before publishing: exam site addresses, local paths, internal names, secrets, and the seeded test emails and phone numbers. Text that matches a product's own instructions, which the replicas sometimes read back, is withheld. Long values are cut, with the original length noted.
- Records are shown in English; the original wording is kept in the exam's own records. Place names, flight numbers and time zones in the simulated world are given in a neutral form, and prices in the simulated shops are exam units, not a real currency. Task wording comes from the bench repository as of 14 October and may have been edited since a batch ran. The records come from the exam team's data pack of 14 October; we checked its figures against them.
- The September smoke run at the bottom of the table predates these batches and the current scoring rules. It is kept for reference.
What this kind of errand involves, and why it is hard to hand over, is on watching something live. How the exam judges a run is in how the exam works. Other worlds: bookings and tickets, email, calendars and group chats, forms, accounts and permissions, shopping carts and checkout, flights and check-in, files and drafts.
